Boris Bitao Questions?

Written by Canadian Nippon at 10:51 1/10-2021

Normally the press releases are more about the season to date or the season planning a head and while I might come back a release another press release discussing such as it has been a good season; this one is going to discuss my options and thoughts towards when is it right to sell a rider? Hint: I have no clue as I usually don't last long enough to see riders develop high enough to be worth selling but this time is different.

The dilemma is the fact that some of my riders are hitting the age of 30 yrs old and while in normal/real life this means the rider is coming into their prime as far as I am aware here they are now starting to consider long in the tooth; which again trying to remember rather then looking up; at the age of 35 they are basically done and usually ready to retire. Seems early but that is the game for everyone. So the question is do you sell a rider when they hit 30yrs old or continue to ride them until they have little to no value left?

I would normally say keeping a rider would pay off more in the long run and really depends on the return of investment (purchase price/scouting price and training cost versus actually winnings) If lucky a rider will make you money once they hit the crossing point between the expenses versus the earning. Some riders hit this earlier then others and some will never actually make you a profit by themselves (team mates). So when is it right to actually sell a rider?

I am guessing somewhere between age of 30-35 when the rider has already made you a profit or contributed to a profit of the team as whole but is now viewed to have more value from being transferred rather then still racing for your team. Okay seems simple but when is that actually the case?

Honestly, I don't know when it comes to a Captain or a Co-Captain as if you want too long then they also lose value to other teams as well; which means the transfer value will drop. As for a team mate, I have figured this to be when they are either replaceable by another rider or no longer have the ability to assist the Captain in winning stages or races. So the team mates are tied to the Captain; which is why you see a Captain sold usually followed by a team sell of the team mates.

So back to my Captains then and here is my direct predicament. My team isn't old yet as majority of my team is still under the age of 30 but I have one rider that I bought when he was already slightly old (25yrs), maybe too old to be trained but was simple too good to pass on such a rider. It was a private deal that was way too beneficial as he was only being sold for 75K so I had to take a chance on the rider. In the end I paid still a fairly cheap price of 145K for an possible 296 SAR, 247 Hill Sprinter and 227 DH specialist. I was always going to take him the SAR and Hill route as I was running a sprint team and he opened up hill sprints for the team. (starting to go off topic) In the end the rider has been more then expected when I first signed him and if anything I have actually under utilized him due to lack of knowledge of hill sprinters, SAR and what I actually had as an rider. That being said he is still a valuable member of my current team, placing well in Hill sprints, Hill races and giving the sprint team a two headed monster with him and Watts.

So the question really being ponder here is when should I sell Boris Bitao? Can he will races still? Yes, But hasn't done so in the past two season due to being over used as an team mate or riding too many tours that we aren't really GC factors. Not to mention I am not a team that uses Top Form unless triggered by accident. This aspect I am still trying to figure out and due to only having one team has meant it wasn't worth shutting down my only team to have a twelve day period where we would win races or place when we were already doing so. (Off topic again).

Boris has more transfer potential then Watts so I could transfer him now and fund my teams development for the next few season without him but I could also ride this rider for another season or two and sell my two head monsters as pair; knowing I might hurt both riders values on the market due to being sold around the same time. I could also ride Watts into retirement due to the fact that he has made me more money then I would have every expected and could still make me money until he is 35+.

Boris is still very much being under utilized on my team and would have greater value now to a team that could provide the rider with the right opportunities to lead, win and have a historic career; which we are currently holding him back from having. What should we do? What should we do? I think it would come down to offers as moving him in Private deal would mean I would get the minimum value that I expect for the rider with maybe more coming if the deal is interrupted equally a win win.

Now how and when should I announce that I am considering PD on Bitao? And am I really ready to sell this rider? Ugh!! I thought this might clear my direction by writing this!! Ugh!! I think it is more unclear now then before!!

Interesting that you mention Jarvinen as he is actually my best sprinter with 219 but needs to be pulled along by the LOSP due to lack of SP. I have raced a few FR races this season with Watts and my TT this season placing just outside the top ten so it might be worth targeting more of them.

  Interesting feedback. Thank You!!

Silenzio at 13:16 1/10-2021
Interesting. Wouldn't sell Bitao tbh. Except for high TQ or FR-races I think Bitao is the best sprinter and SARS in your team. 30y should be one of his best seasons. Would not sell him but use your LOSP-squard or indeed rotate TF-captaincy with Watts and Jarvinen.

I think Watts could do well in the FR-races with the support of your TT-team as LO1. SO you might as well consider to divide races

Canadian Nippon at 11:41 1/10-2021
Yeah, I really should be TF on alternating rotation now between Watts and Bitao for the next few years; now that I have an TT team that can all score on the regular. I also have a climbing Tour rider coming as he is currently sitting in my Talents Feature since I am not pulling him until I can train him.

  Thanks for the suggestion!!
